Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Dan Neville

Question:

488 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will accept the invitation by the Kildimo and Pallaskenry action group to meet them regarding the objections to the extension of the Shannon water scheme to the Kildimo and Pallaskenry area; and if he will include the Limerick county manager at the meeting. [8631/98]

As I indicated in my reply to Questions Nos. 164, 165, 166 and 167 of 14 October 1997 the planning of water supplies to local areas is the responsibility of the relevant local authority. The local authority submitted modified proposals on 23 December 1997 and 25 February 1998 to provide the trunk main from the termination point of the contract currently under construction to the existing reservoir serving Pallaskenry and Kildimo. This proposal is under examination in the Department. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve this proposal.
