Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Parking Regulations.

Richard Bruton

Question:

503 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to introduce new measures, for example a scheme of difficult to remove stickers, to deal with the parking by able bodied persons in spaces reserved for persons with a disability. [8831/98]

New provisions were introduced by the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations, 1997, prohibiting the stopping or parking of a vehicle in a disabled person's parking bay in a public place unless a valid disabled person's parking permit is displayed and the vehicle is parked for the benefit of the person to whom the permit was granted. In addition, the on-the-spot fine system was extended to include the offence of parking illegally in a disabled person's parking bay in a public place.

There are no proposals at present for any further new measures in this matter.
