Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Doolough (Mayo) Sand Dunes.

Michael Ring

Question:

563 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if the Doolough sand dunes, County Mayo which were owned by the Irish Land Commission were acquired by the Office of Public Works in trust for the people of Mayo. [9359/98]

I confirm that the lands in question are now registered in the ownership of the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. The lands comprise of machair, a habitat type which is among those described as "priority" in the EU habitats directive. They have been acquired for conservation purposes.
