Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tacumshane Lake, Wexford.

Ivan Yates

Question:

573 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will expedite works on Tacumshane Lake (details supplied) in County Wexford by the Office of Public Works; the up-to-date position and timetable for the future completion of these works; and if she will ensure that the matter is finalised at an early date in view of the liaison with the local committees in this regard. [9104/98]

The engineering works involving the regulation and control of water levels on Tacumshane Lake County Wexford form part of an EU funded life project on the conservation management of special protection areas in Ireland. Engineers attached to Dúchas, the Heritage Service of my Department, carried out a preliminary survey of the project and it was decided to retain marine engineering consultants to consider the options available. The consultants have completed survey work and their draft report is expected to be submitted at the end of this month. Following receipt and consideration of this report it will be necessary to undertake detailed design of the project. It is not possible at this point to furnish a detailed time table for the completion of this project but I have asked that it should proceed as quickly as possible.
