Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Parking Regulations.

Tony Gregory

Question:

598 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason the double yellow lines at Little Britain Street, Halston Street, Dublin 7 are not enforced in view of the fact that numerous lorries park there every day, constituting a serious traffic hazard at this busy junction. [8781/98]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that gardaí on beat and mobile patrols enforce the parking regulations in Little Britain Street and Halston Street. In addition, two traffic wardens are assigned daily to this area.

The Deputy is aware that there is a large number of premises in the area which receive deliveries each day. Vehicles are allowed to park at these premises for the purpose of loading and unloading as provided for in article 5(2) of the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations, 1997.

I assure the Deputy that the gardaí pay particular attention to parking in the area in question and that appropriate action is taken where offences are detected.
