Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

John Perry

Question:

616 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is no typist in Ballymote Garda station where typed submissions are required by the State Solicitor, Superintendent and Garda members; if he will appoint a typist which will alleviate the severe backlog, delays and difficulties encountered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9188/98]

The detailed deployment of civilian clerical staff to Garda stations is a matter for the Garda authorities, having regard to the overall numbers available and the needs of individual stations.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there is one civilian typist assigned to Ballymote Garda station. I understand that, while delays in submissions may have occurred in individual cases, it is not correct to say there is a severe backlog of typing at the station.
