Jim Higgins

Question:

619 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will expedite registration of a folio (details supplied) in County Mayo. [9191/98]

I am informed by the Registrar of titles that the registration of this folio was completed on 10 March 1998.

Michael Ring

Question:

620 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a dealing (details supplied) in the Land Registry office will be finalised. [9200/98]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this dealing refers to an application under section 49 (i.e. acquisition of title by virtue of long possession) of the Registration of Title Act, 1964, which was lodged on 20 October 1997. I understand that due to their complicated nature, applications under section 49, which require detailed examination of the applicant's claim for registration as owner, take some time to process and it is not possible at this stage to give an estimated time for completion of this case.

I can assure the Deputy that the Land Registry will do everything possible to expedite the resolution of this application.

Question:

621 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if two Land Registry dealings could be expedited for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [9201/98]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that the first dealing referred to by the Deputy is an application under section 49 (i.e. acquisition of Title by virtue of long possession) of the Registration of Title Act, 1964, which was lodged on 6 April 1998. I understand that due to their complicated nature, applications under section 49, which require detailed examination of the applicant's claim for registration as owner, take some time to process. I can inform the Deputy that this application is being expedited.

I am further informed that the second dealing referred to involves a land commission schedule. In the case of such schedules, the property is deemed to be registered as of the date of vesting by the land commission, which in this case was 29 November 1985. I confirm that the Land Registry expects that the schedule will be completed in approximately six weeks.
