Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

638 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties of an organisation (details supplied) in Dublin 14 who were given a grant of £10,000 under the recreational facilities and major facilities scheme in May 1997 in drawing down the money; if he will propose a solution to the problems which have arisen taking into account that the club is paying interest on a bridging loan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9452/98]

The organisation in question was awarded a grant of £10,000 in 1997 under the sports capital programme operated by my Department and a letter confirming the grant as well as setting out the terms and conditions for payment was issued on 16 July 1997.

To date the club has not complied with these terms and conditions. In addition, a number of issues relevant to the payment of the grant have come to the Department's attention which require clarification. Until such time as these issues have been clarified satisfactorily and the terms and conditions complied with it is not possible to authorise payment of the grant.
