In tandem with this, my Department's planning section is examining the enrolment projections for the school. 686 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in regard to sanctioning a new extension to Donaghmore national school, Killygarden, County Donegal. [8644/98]

As the Deputy will be aware, the demands for capital funding at the primary level are considerable. My Department has no record of receiving an application for the provision of a new school to replace Scoil Náisiúnta, Loch an Iuir, County Donegal. My Department is currently re-examining an application by the board of management of Creevy National School, Ballyshannon, for an extension to the school. When this process is completed, a decision will be conveyed to the school and I will keep the Deputy informed of developments.

Michael Creed

Question:

692 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding a proposed extension to a national school (details supplied) in County Cork; and if he is agreeable, in principle, to make the necessary funding available. [8650/98]

An extension to the national school to which the Deputy refers would require an extension to the school site. The school authorities wrote recently to my Department seeking a commitment on funding the extension if they pursued the acquisition of the site extension. The matter is currently under consideration in my Department who will be in touch with the school chairperson as soon as possible. I will keep the Deputy informed of developments.
