Louis J. Belton

Question:

696 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will appoint a second teacher to the unit for deaf children at the Convent primary school, Ballymahon, County Longford, in view of the fact that there is an urgent need for this appointment. [8686/98]

Denis Naughten

Question:

755 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a second teacher has not been appointed to a school (details supplied) in County Longford in view of information which shows that a similar type school in Dublin City has a lower pupil to teacher ratio; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9169/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 693, 696 and 755 together.

My Department has received a submission from the school in question.

I am pleased to inform the Deputies that my Department sanctioned a second class for hearing impaired children at the school in question earlier this month.
