700 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science the budgetary provision, if any, made in 1998 to provide capital funds to upgrade VEC colleges specialising in further education; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8753/98]
Infrastructural provision for the post-leaving certificate area is made in the normal course of events from within the second level capital allocation.
The £250 million education technology investment fund which I announced towards the end of 1997 will also be used to develop education infrastructure at all levels, including PLC's. This funding will be in addition to the annual capital allocations and will not reduce or replace existing investment.
