Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Creed

Question:

702 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will extend the school bus service to a school (details supplied) in County Cork to facilitate a pupil. [8764/98]

As a rule, primary school transport routes are planned so that no eligible child will have to travel more than 1.5 miles to the pick-up point.

The pupil to whom the Deputy refers resides 1.2 miles from the existing pick-up point, and has a reasonable level of service in the overall context of the scheme.
Furthermore, the requested extension would involve inconvenience to other pupils, as well as extra cost.
Accordingly, I regret that the current arrangement is the most that can be offered by my Department.
