Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dan Neville

Question:

733 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the construction of an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Limerick. [9002/98]

The management of the school in County Limerick to which the Deputy refers has submitted plans for a proposed new school to the planning authority. In tandem with this, my Department's architectural service is meeting the planners shortly to clarify certain aspects of the proposal.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

734 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if a refurbishment grant will be provided for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 16 to replace the dilapidated prefabs which are no longer suitable accommodation for children; if the recent announcement of a second level school for the Knocklyon area will have an impact on the stage two funding of this school's development programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9003/98]

The project to provide an additional 1,980 square metres of accommodation at the school referred to by the Deputy had reached stage 1, site report-suitability, of architectural planning. However, I recently announced the provision of a new second level school at Knocklyon. The planning section of my Department is currently assessing the long-term accommodation requirements at this new school. This exercise involves an impact study on the school referred to by the Deputy. Pending the outcome of the study, it will not be possible to progress the architectural planning of the project at the school in question. The matter will be dealt with speedily to minimise the delay in providing the appropriate level of accommodation at the school.
