Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Technology.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

212 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her Department has a free telephone number, 1890, for the convenience of the public; and, if so, the action, if any, taken to bring this service to public notice. [8722/98]

Since 17 November, 1997, as part of an ongoing drive to improve service to the public, my Department can be contacted at 1890 443311 from anywhere in the country for the cost of a local call.

Details of this facility were published in the national newspapers in November 1997 and all staff, particularly those operating the Department's switchboard, are encouraged to publicise the number to members of the public whenever possible.

My Department also publicises this number on its Internet web site and in the customer service action plan. It will also be highlighted in our forthcoming annual report. Furthermore, Met Éireann, which is part of my Department, may be contacted at 1890 668080.
