Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Communications Masts.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

223 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the degree of consultation and review, if any, she has undertaken with the Departments of the Environment and Local Government, Education and Science and Health and Children regarding the proximity of location of mobile telephone masts and transmitters in the environs of facilities such as schools and hospitals. [9354/98]

While the issues raised by the Deputy are, in the first instance, matters for the communications operators involved and the relevant planning authorities I do recognise the concerns felt by many in relation to these and related matters.

As I indicated at the recent conference sponsored by my Department in Dublin Castle, it is my intention to raise these and related issues at inter-departmental level at an early opportunity with a view to ascertaining how best to move forward and address the concerns being expressed.
