Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - FCA Recruitment.

Willie Penrose

Question:

231 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Defence if he will ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath will undergo a medical examination in relation to his application to join the FCA prior to a decision being made in relation to this application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8705/98]

To be eligible for enlistment in the FCA, applicants must satisfy the conditions for enlistment as prescribed in Defence Force Regulations, which include meeting the medical standard as laid down by the Adjutant General. It is usual practice that, prior to a decision on their application, applicants are medically examined to ascertain if they meet the prescribed medical category only if they have met the other specified conditions.
