Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Technology.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

232 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence if his Department has a free telephone number, 1890, for the convenience of the public; and, if so, the action, if any, taken to bring this service to public notice. [8723/98]

The Department has two Lo Call numbers; 1 890 426444 for the Department's offices at Renmore Galway, and 1 890 426555 for the Department's competitions section in Dublin.

A number of actions have been, or are being, taken to bring these services to public notice, including publication of the numbers in the Department's customer service action plan; publication on an ongoing basis of the competitions section number in press advertisements for recruitment competitions; drawing the attention of the public to the numbers in oral and written contacts; the planned inclusion of the numbers in proposed new letter-heads; the planned issue of mailshots to the Departments principal customers i.e. pensioners; and the planned publication shortly of both numbers in national newspaper advertisements covering the availability of these services in Departments generally.
