Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crop Losses.

Bernard Allen

Question:

271 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will reconsider a decision not to sanction a grant under the 1997 weather related crop losses scheme to a person (details supplied) in County Cork, in view of the fact that the storm damage occurred on Christmas eve 1997 and the earliest they could make an application arising from that damage was in early 1998; if he would review the situation whereby the Department stated that the damage caused was mainly of a structural nature, despite the fact that the crop losses were valued at £10,000 out of a total claim of £16,300; and, if not, if the application could be included with a previous claim (details supplied). [8735/98]

I invited applications for assistance for weather related crop losses in 1997 with a closing date for receipt of applications of 19 December 1997. The scheme related to crop damage which had occurred before that date. Criteria for assistance were set in the light of applications received and the funds available for the scheme. In the circumstances I am not in a position to extend the scope of the scheme to include the claim in question.
