Vol. 489 No. 7

Written Answers. - Railway Accidents.

Denis Naughten

Question:

152 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received the report of the inquiry by Iarnród Éireann into the tragic accident which occurred on 30 September 1997 at an unmanned level crossing in Donamon, County Roscommon; if so, the conclusions and safety recommendation of this report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9629/98]

I am advised that the board of inquiry established by Iarnród Éireann to investigate this accident has not yet completed its report. The report will be submitted as soon as it is finalised to my Department's railway inspecting officer who will review it to determine whether any further safety measures should be taken by the company to minimise the risk of a similar accident occurring in the future.
