Vol. 489 No. 7

Written Answers. - Language Training Centres.

Michael Ring

Question:

143 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she is going to act on a report (details attached) supplied to Forbairt and the county enterprise boards to develop an executive language college for Westport, County Mayo; and the progress, if any, she has made in 1998 in this regard. [9660/98]

I am informed that the report referred to by the Deputy, which was commissioned by the Westport Tourism Organisation, did not call for any action by me or by my Department.

I am also informed that the recommendation relating to the feasibility of establishing an English language centre in Westport was a matter to be pursued by western tourism interests, including the private sector in the first instance. Central to the advancement of the proposal would be the identification of a suitable promoter, who has yet to emerge.
