Question:

147 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the percentage of moneys allocated to County Mayo in relation to the total sum of moneys allocated nationally in 1997 for harbours, small ports and piers. [9562/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 145 to 147, inclusive, together.

Some £3 million was expended under the Department's Vote in 1997 on the capital development of fishery harbours, the bulk of this expenditure related to capital works at the five fishery harbour centres and other major fishery harbours around the country. The remainder of the expenditure was incurred on minor harbours and aquaculture landing places. Of this, £29,643 was made available to Mayo County Council for the improvement and upgrading of harbours and landing facilities.
