Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

12 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the position in relation to live cattle exports. [9396/98]

Michael Creed

Question:

38 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the position regarding negotiations with the Egyptian authorities to reopen live exports from Ireland. [9386/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 7, 12 and 38 together. I have addressed these issues already. The two main areas, Egypt and Libya, remain closed and have been so since 1996 following the BSE outbreak. There is no good reason they should remain closed and every possible effort is being made to have them reopened.
