Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Medical Insurance.

Ulick Burke

Question:

192 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself that a recent report (details supplied) on private medical insurance is accurate in suggesting that medical insurance is approaching crisis point and shows evidence that these medical insurance schemes are a mass of vested interests and conflicting roles; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10084/98]

I have recently received the report of the Advisory Group on the Risk Equalisation Scheme; the group was established by my predecessor. The advisory group has examined and made recommendations on the risk equalisation scheme and has also made recommendations in relation to other aspects of the private health insurance regulatory framework which will be considered in the context of the preparation of the White Paper on private health insurance. The report is currently under consideration by my Department.
