Michael Ring

Question:

200 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government whether Mayo County Council has lodged plans in relation to the proposed Lough Mask water supply to serve the towns and townlands of Westport, Louisburgh, Newport and Mulranny, County Mayo. [9804/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 199 and 200 together.

A brief for a scheme to serve these areas was received in my Department this morning, and arrangements are being made for its examination. However, given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the proposal.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

201 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when an application for Barraduff sewerage scheme, County Kerry was received by his Department; if this application is regarded as a priority within his Department; and, if not, the action needed to be taken to have it made a priority in view of the fact that the sewerage scheme was first proposed more than 20 years ago. [9837/98]

The local authority was asked in September last to review its proposals for this scheme in the context of the newly extended small schemes programme. Responsibility for small public water and sewerage schemes, costing less than £250,000, has been devolved to local authorities which are now responsible for the planning, design and prioritisation of projects within the capital allocations notified by my Department.
