Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - National Environment Partnership Forum.

John Gormley

Question:

207 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when the first meeting of the newly proposed environment forum will take place; and if he will outline the objectives of this forum. [9942/98]

The Government's objective in establishing the National Environment Partnership Forum is to obtain maximum participation and consultation in environmental policy for all those interested in or affecting our environment. I am now considering the outcome of the consultative process towards its establishment, undertaken by my Department; this concluded with a conference on 25 March to discuss a range of matters, including the forum's specific terms of reference and objectives. My consideration is guided by the views expressed during the consultation process. I intend that the forum will be established by mid-year and will begin its work by early autumn.
