Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Environmental Protection Agency.

John Gormley

Question:

208 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the widespread dissatis-faction of environmental non-governmental organisations with the Environmental Protection Agency; and the plans, if any, he has to amend the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992. [9943/98]

I am not aware of widespread dissatisfaction, among environmental non-governmental organisations or any other bodies, with the Environmental Protection Agency and I do not believe grounds exist to support such a claim. While I intend to bring forward legislation to amend the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992 (No. 7 of 1992), for the purposes of transposing Directive 96/61/EC concerning integrated pollution prevention and control into national law by the due date in October 1999, I have no plans to alter fundamentally the structure or functions of the agency.
