Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Criminal Assets Bureau.

Tony Gregory

Question:

245 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of assessments of tax made to date by the Criminal Assets Bureau; the number of those assessments appealed to the appeals commissioner; the number of appeals outstanding; and when they are likely to be dealt with. [9783/98]

I am informed by the Garda Authorities that, from 1 August 1996 to 24 April 1998, the number of assessments of tax made by the Criminal Assets Bureau is 128. Forty five of those assessments have been appealed to the appeal commissioners and are outstanding.

Dates for the hearing of 15 of the appeals have been fixed for the months of May and June.
