Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Jim Higgins

Question:

252 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí employed at Garda stations in the Mayo division for each of the years from 1995 to date; the additional funding, resources and technology, if any, provided during these periods; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9907/98]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. They have informed me that all of County Mayo is incorporated into the Mayo Garda division.

The Garda strength of the Mayo division for each of the years from 1995 to date is as follows:

Date

Stength (all ranks)

31/12/1995

249

31/12/1996

253

31/12/1997

258

31/3/1998

259

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that due to time constraints it has not been possible to provide a detailed report into the areas of additional funding, resources and technology at this juncture. I will communicate further with the Deputy as soon as the information is to hand.
