Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Sports Funding.

Michael Ring

Question:

271 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation whether funding of £15,000 sanctioned under the recreational facilities scheme to a sports complex project (details supplied) in County Mayo in May 1997 is available to be drawn down in view of the fact that the group are in a position to commence work. [9930/98]

A grant of £15,000 was allocated to the sports complex in July 1997 under the sports capital programme. In line with standard procedures, payment of the grant is subject to the complex providing specific documentation and information confirming that the development complies with the terms and conditions of the programme. When these details are received and found to be in order, payment will be made.

Jim Higgins

Question:

272 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will approve an application for refurbishment of Kiltimagh community sports complex in County Mayo. [9999/98]

An application for funding under the sports capital programme was received from Kiltimagh community centre in May 1997.

Grants for 1998 under the programme were recently allocated and all available funds have now been committed to a number of projects around the country. The community centre was recently advised that they are not among the projects approved for grant aid in 1998.

The sports capital programme is currently under review. Accordingly, no further applications are being invited until the review is completed and I am in a position to publicise details of the new schemes.
