Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Teaching Posts.

John Gormley

Question:

295 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will investigate the accusation made on a radio programme (details supplied) in relation to political favouritism displayed by VEC boards when appointing teachers. [9962/98]

As I indicated on the programme in question, it is open to any person who has concerns about any incorrectness in appointments to a particular teaching position under a vocational education committee to write, in confidence, to a named senior official in my Department who will arrange to have the matter investigated.

Question:

296 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Education and Science if he is in receipt of a letter from a person (details supplied) from the board of management, City Quay national school, in which he has requested that an important teaching post be retained; and if he will give an assurance that he will do everything possible to retain this position. [9963/98]

The staffing arrangements for primary schools for the 1998-99 school year have not yet been determined.

However, as soon as the arrangements are finalised I have asked my officials to review the position at the school to which the Deputy refers and to correspond with the board of management directly in the matter.
