Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Freedom of Information Act.

Michael Ferris

Question:

65 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Finance when he intends to make regulations under the Freedom of Information Act, 1997 to deal with access to personal information by parents of children and by next of kin of deceased persons. [9519/98]

The preparation of draft regulations under the Freedom of Information Act governing, inter alia, access to personal information by parents of children and by next of kin of deceased persons is under way in my Department. As part of this process consultations are being undertaken with various areas of Government which may have particular insight into issues arising in relation to such access. I envisage that the regulations would be made in the near future following from these consultations and in the light of some experience gained from the operation of the Freedom of Information Act itself.
