Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Pre-Contract Expenses.

Question:

85 Mr. Hayes asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the practice of precontract expenses incurred by the purchaser of a property; the action, if any, she will be taking to amend the law in this area in order that a purchaser will be given an opportunity of claiming back expenses which he has put into the pre-contract stage in the context of the current housing market; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9974/98]

I have been advised by the Director of Consumer Affairs that he is investigating a complaint, received last week, about the matters referred to by the Deputy. I have asked the director to make recommendations if, during the course of his investigation, he discovers that the cover provided by any existing law is inadequate.
