Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Regional Airports.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

109 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans, if any, she has to provide finance for marketing resource to Galway Airport; if she proposes to increase the current grant of £40,000 being paid over the last number of years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9842/98]

A scheme of Exchequer marketing grants to the regional airports over the years 1996-99 was put in place by the previous Government in May 1996. The scheme was designed to assist these airports in promoting new services to enable them to reach critical mass breakeven traffic by the end of 1999.

Galway Airport was allocated a grant of £160,000 under this scheme and received grants of £40,000 in 1996 and 1997. A similar amount has been provided in my Department's Vote for 1998 and in the Estimates for 1999.
