Vol. 490 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Ivan Yates

Question:

134 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the way in which the forage area was calculated for payments for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford in view of the fact that he feels that he was incorrectly paid; and if his Department will expedite payment of his special beef and suckler cow payments for 1998. [10564/98]

The incorrect amount of forage area registered for the person named has been amended from 7.77 hectares to 15.77 hectares and accordingly the outstanding amount due under the special beef premium scheme, £90.17 x 9 @ 90 per cent will issue over the coming week.

The balancing payment of 10 per cent, cannot commence until the final position vis-à-vis the national quota is established.

In so far as the 1997 suckler cow premium scheme is concerned, the person named applied for grants on 17 animals. He was paid an advance of £1,307.50 on 19 November 1997 based on a forage area of 7.77 hectares. The balance due to him was calculated as £871.67 since he was restricted to 15.54 livestock units based on the forage area registered for him at that time. As the person named had been overpaid by £738.22 under the 1993 special beef premium scheme, this amount was deducted from his 1997 suckler cow premium entitlement and he was paid the remainder of £133.45 on 3 April 1998. He is due a further £204.74 under the 1997 suckler cow premium scheme when the amended forage area is taken into account and this will issue within the next two weeks.
