160 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Finance if he will reduce or remove vehicle registration tax on cars which opt to use cleaner fuel as an incentive to taxi owners to change to gas powered cars; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10556/98]

Vehicle registration tax is calculated on the open market selling price of the vehicle presented for registration. I have no plans to amend the law in relation to this tax in the manner suggested by the Deputy.
