Vol. 490 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Liam Aylward

Question:

189 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 190 of 17 February 1998 regarding the application by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 for a medical card, he will outline the reason for the delay in this case in view of the fact that all information requested was submitted to the health board over a month ago. [10438/98]

Under the Health Act, 1970, determination of eligibility for medical cards is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board.

As you may be aware new laminated medical cards were introduced to the Eastern Health Board region in February last and I am advised that there have been some initial teething problems resulting in delays in the issue of new medical cards. It is my understanding that a medical card has recently issued to the individual concerned.
