Vol. 490 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water Supply Contamination.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

214 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the action, if any, he intends to take in relation to the urgent situation concerning the recurring contamination of the public water supply from the Mulcair in Newport, County Tipperary. [10406/98]

The action to be taken in relation to the protection of a public water supply is a matter in the first instance for the appropriate local authority. My Department has recently requested a report from the local authority in the matter and this is awaited. It is understood that recent samples taken by the local authority indicate that the water supply is free of contamination.
