Question:

140 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will address the difficulties people are experiencing in endeavouring to contact the area aid section by telephone; if his attention has been drawn to the frustration the farmers in south Kerry are experiencing as well as the expense of ringing Dublin on numerous occasions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11187/98]

Arrangements have been put in place to expedite the clearance of applications with outstanding difficulties with priority being given to cases which are holding up payments. As advertised in the farming press, to enable this arrangement to operate effectively the area aid unit will be contacting the farmers concerned over the coming weeks.
