I propose to take Questions Nos. 177, 178, 179, 180 and 181 together.

The provision of services in the two schools located on the Beechpark campus is primarily a matter for the Department of Education and Science. The Eastern Health Board provides assessment and certain other health related support services, in conjunction with the Department of Education and Science, for the children attending the schools and for other children with autism on an outreach basis.

The 1995 document referred to by the Deputy sets out the Eastern Health Board's proposals for the development of its autism services. Discussions are ongoing between officials of my Department and the board in relation to the further development of services for persons with autism in the Eastern Health Board region in line with the proposals submitted by the board and my Department's Policy Document on Services to Persons with Autism. I recently approved additional funding to enable the board to enhance the level of assessment and outreach services provided for children with autism.

I have not seen the 1997 document referred to by the Deputy. The Eastern Health board has been unable to identify the document in question from the information given by the Deputy. If the Deputy has any further details concerning this document, I will forward them to the board to assist them in identifying the document in question.
Officials from my Department recently met with the Daughters of the Cross of Liege to discuss proposals for the future of the services provided in Beechpark. Representatives of both the Department of Education and Science and the Eastern Health Board also met with the Daughters last week. My officials are today meeting with the Department of Education and Science to discuss in further detail the plans which are now proposed for both the educational and health related support services.
Both Departments will subsequently meet with the Daughters of the Cross of Liege with the intention of agreeing arrangements for the continuation of the services on the Beechpark campus, including securing the future of the site. The Daughters of the Cross of Liege have indicated to both Departments their wish to see these services remaining on the Beechpark campus.
Officials from both Departments and the Eastern Health Board will subsequently meet with representatives of the parents to discuss their concerns with them and to inform them of the outcome of these discussions.
