Vol. 490 No. 7

Written Answers. - Environmental Protection Agency.

Pat Carey

Question:

189 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to increase the staffing complement for the Environmental Protection Agency in view of the rapidly rising interest in environmental matters, particularly in the area of genetics; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10973/98]

As part of the orderly build-up of EPA organisation and functions, earlier this year I sanctioned, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, an additional 13 posts for the agency generally, bringing its total staff complement — including directors — to 172.

A further staffing proposal has been submitted by the agency and is being considered in my Department.
