Vol. 490 No. 7

Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

John Browne

Question:

205 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans, if any, the Dúchas heritage service of her Department will implement in Carlow in relation to jetties, etc., in view of the investment in boating in Carlow town. [11180/98]

: I wish to inform the Deputy that my Department, and specifically Dúchas, the heritage service — Waterways — has responsibility for navigation on the Barrow River. The remit of the Office of Public Works extends to flood refief schemes and in this regard, I understand that the Office of Public Works is examining the question of relief of urban flooding in Carlow town. It would be prudent to wait the outcome of this before planning any new investment in boating facilities in Carlow.
