Vol. 490 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dust Inhalation.

David Stanton

Question:

259 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the health risk to staff and children caused by possible inhalation of dust and, in particular, fibre board dust in woodwork rooms in schools; the guidelines, if any, his Department has issued in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11304/98]

The technical staff of my Department are currently examining the question of dust extraction facilities in post-primary schools. It is intended that a pilot project on the installation of a new system will be initiated shortly.

The results of the pilot scheme will be used to determine general policy in this area.
