Vol. 490 No. 7

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Michael Finucane

Question:

97 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 100 of 6 May 1998, he will outline the locations in each county where there has been coastal erosion. [11350/98]

The overall extent of the coastal erosion problem, based on the information currently available, is as set out in my reply to the Deputy's Parliamentary Question No. 100 of 6 May 1998.

The coastal zone is characterised by a continuous and complex process of interaction between land and sea and it would not be feasible to detail every location where erosion has occurred. I will, however, forward to the Deputy details of the priority projects put forward by local authorities for consideration in the context of the coast protection measure of the operational programme for environmental services 1994-99.
