Ruairí Quinn

Question:

176 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the progress to date in ensuring that each agency within her remit is year 2000 compliant; the cost of work done so far; the estimated cost of full compliance; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11783/98]

I am aware of the importance of the agencies, under the aegis of my Department, successfully completing the necessary year 2000 compliance work at the earliest opportunity. Accordingly my Department is actively monitoring progress in relation to such year 2000 compliance by these agencies and regular progress reports are being made to the Interdepartmental Committee on Year 2000, established by my colleague, the Minister for Finance. I consider that the cost of such necessary compliance work is an operational matter for the agencies concerned.
