Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Ulick Burke

Question:

241 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Finance if he will have arrangements made to relocate a Government Department in Ballinasloe, County Galway under any future decentralisation programme in view of the fact that an ideal vacant building complex is available for acquisition and refurbishment at a very low cost; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11846/98]

The current programme of decentralisation is not yet complete and there are no immediate plans to extend it to other areas. However, I am at present considering the many issues relevant to decentralisation policy and I propose to discuss these with my colleagues in Government in the near future.

I have noted the case made by the Deputy for the inclusion of Ballinasloe in any future decentralisation programme.
