Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

375 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for the student summer jobs scheme. [12196/98]

The purpose of the students summer jobs scheme, which was first introduced in 1993, is to provide income support during the summer holidays period for the less well off third level students who are disqualified from receiving unemployment assistance and are unable to obtain summer work. Students who have completed their course of study are not eligible to participate in the scheme. Such students are eligible to apply for unemployment assistance in the normal course.

That is the position in relation to the person concerned who has completed a course of study at University College Dublin.
