Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

376 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when the appeal of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be heard. [12319/98]

The person concerned was in receipt of a pre-retirement allowance at the rate of £49.50 per week, based on means derived from the benefit of her husband's income as a part time postman. Her means were reviewed recently and on the basis of an increase in her husband's income her means were re-assessed at £39.90 which had the effect of reducing her allowance to £29.50 from 26 February 1998.

The claimant appealed this decision on 4 March 1998 and the appeals officer is of the opinion that an oral hearing is necessary. This will be arranged as soon as possible.
