Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Deer Hunting.

Tony Gregory

Question:

380 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the action, if any, her Department is taking to determine the status of deer kept by the Ward Union Stag Hunting Club in order to establish if the deer are domestic animals and therefore unlawful to hunt under the provisions of the Wildlife Act, 1976. [11684/98]

A licence is given to the Ward Union Stag Hunting Club to hunt deer under section 26 (1) (ii) of the Wildlife Act, 1976. This section does not distinguish between domesticated deer and wild deer. All aspects of the licensing provisions of section 26 of the Wildlife Act, 1976, are currently the subject of a review by the Heritage Council.
