Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

John McGuinness

Question:

393 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if her Department will undertake to carry out a report on the condition of the dolmen site in Carlow with a view to making funds available to improve the access to the site, protect and maintain the dolmen and improve signage; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12139/98]

I assume that the dolmen referred to by the Deputy is Brownshill Dolmen.

While Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, feels that the means of access to the site and the information signage provided are both adequate, it will review both matters in consultation with local interests and seek to improve the situation as resources permit.

Dúchas is satisfied that the monument is adequately protected.
