Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

422 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will favour the request of persons (details supplied) for asylum in this country in view of their treatment by neo-nazis in Germany and their excellent qualifications in economics, German and English. [11986/98]

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

425 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will grant humanitarian leave to stay for persons (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12198/98]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 422 and 425 together.

This particular case is still under consideration.

Dan Neville

Question:

423 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of minors within the refugee community in Ireland and among those families applying for asylum. [11987/98]

The number of persons recorded as unaccompanied minors or children of people who sought refugee status since January 1992 is 1,407. This does not include any subsequent children born in Ireland to asylum seekers or persons granted refugee status as my Department does not maintain such statistics.
